About the Author
Abdul Hameed, better known as A. Hameed, is considered to be one of the prominent fiction writers in Urdu. He was born at Amritsar on August 25, 1928 where he received his early education in a local school. After the Partition of India, he acquired the degree of F. A. in Pakistan as a private candidate and joined Radio Pakistan in the capacity of staff artist. There, he wrote radio features and plays. In 1980, he resigned and migrated to USA and joined the Voice of America as a Producer. He did not, however like the conditions at his new location and returned to Pakistan to work as a freelance writer till his last day. Hameed is the author of over two hundred short stories, plays, and novels

Having worked in various professions, Dickens started writing in newspapers and magazines and most of his work was published as monthly serials in them. Dickens was a prolific writer. He wrote over a dozen novels, many a collection of short stories, a large body of non-fiction and poetic works, and many plays. He was arguably the best Victorian novelist and enjoyed great fame during his lifetime. He died in 1870 but even today he is one of the most popular authors, of all times

About the Author
Ernest Hemingway was born in the USA in 1899. He led a diverse life. He chose a career in journalism in his early life, participated in both World Wars, covered the Greco-Turkish and the Spanish Civil Wars, sailed the Caribbean and lived in four continents. During his stay in Paris, he became a part of the American expatriate circle of Gertrude Stein, Ezra Pound. F Scott Fitzgerald and Ford Maddox Ford. He made good use of his multifarious life experience in his writings and penned many great novels and short stories. In 1954, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. Not many years later, he committed suicide in 1961.

About the Author
Frances Hodgson Burnett was born in England in 1849. She was only three years old when her father died. Consequently, her family faced financial issues and moved to America in 1865. It was there to support her family that Burnett started publishing her early works in magazines. This sharpened her writing skills and she wrote her first novel That Lass O Lorrie s in 1877. There was no stopping her then. She wrote many fictional and dramatic works of which most enduring are her two children novels A Little Princess and The Secret Garden. Burnett died in 1924.

About the Author
One of the leading British writers and intellectual of the twentieth century Virginia Woolf was born in London on 25 January 1882. She began publishing her work to both general and critical acclaim in her early twenties and became associated with Bloomsbury Circle, an influential group of English modernist writers, intellectuals, philosophers and artists in early twentieth century. Best remembered for the lyrical quality of her prose Woolf wrote many novels and essays all bearing the modernist trends of the Circle. Her works have been translated in over 50 languages around the world. However, she was not very lucky in health matters and suffered from the bouts of mental illness throughout her life. She perished by drowning during one such attack on 28 March 1941.

Doyle was a prolific writer and in addition to his Holmes oeuvre he wrote many other novels and short stories. Among them The Lost World is another great work of fiction.
