About the Author
Sigmund Freud was born on 6 May 1856, in Freiberg (now Pribor in the present-day Czech Republic) in the Austrian Empire. Celebrated as the pioneering neurologist and the father of psychoanalysis, he stands as one of the most influential figures in the history of psychology. Freud’s revolutionary ideas transformed our understanding of human mind and behavior. His ground-breaking theories, including the concept of the unconscious mind, the Oedipus complex and the role of dreams, reshaped the landscape of psychological thought. Beyond the clinical realm, his work extends into cultural and social analyses leaving an indelible mark on disciplines ranging from psychiatry to literature. Having fled Austria following the Nazi occupation, Freud spent the last year of his life in London, England, where he died of cancer on 23 September 1939.
